Aug. 15, 2007
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Megan Langenfeld helped her Amateur Softball Association (ASA) team, the Worth Firecrackers, to the ASA Gold 18-under National Fastpitch Championship last weekend. Langenfeld went 6-0 in the tournament, besting four of her 2008 Bruin teammates on the OC Batbusters by a 5-4 score in the championship game.
This year's final was a re-match of last year's title game, in which the Batbusters from Santa Ana knocked off the Firecrackers from Huntington Beach. The Batbusters featured 2008 freshmen GiOnna DiSalvatore, Monica Harrison, Donna Kerr and Katie Schroeder. Along with Langenfeld, the quintet of Bruins in the tournament were also members of the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team that claimed gold at the ISF Junior Women's World Championships in June.
Langenfeld struck out 21 in 32 innings of work, posting a 1.75 earned run average. Kerr had 30 punchouts in 25 2/3 innings of work, going 5-1 in the tournament. On offense, DiSalvatore went 6-for-20 (.300) with three runs batted in, Harrison had six RBI and a grand slam in the championship contest and Schroeder was 9-for-19 (.474) with three RBI.
