Aug. 15, 2007

The UCLA men's and women's track and field teams have announced their competition schedules for the 2008 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. Next year's schedule features three home meets including the annual rivalry meet with USC, trips to Texas and Penn Relays, as well as the U.S. Olympic Trials.

The men's and women's teams will split for the first competition of the indoor season as the men head to the Husky Preview in Seattle while the women compete at the Illinois Invite in Champaign, IL January 18-19. Both teams will then head to the UW Invitational on February 1-2. Two big meets highlight the weekend of February 15-16 as the women will head to the Tyson Invite and the men will split to compete at Tyson and the Iowa State Classic.

The MPSF Conference Championships will be held February 29-March 1 in Seattle, WA. The Bruins will use meets in Ames, IA and Seattle, WA on March 8 to pick up any last chance qualifiers before the NCAA Indoor Championships before competing March 14-15 at the national meet in Fayetteville, AR.

The oudoor season begins at home with the UCLA Invitational on March 8. Athletes who have qualified for the NCAA indoor meet will head to Arkansas the weekend of March 14-15, while those not competing at Nationals will head to Northridge for the CSUN Invite March 12-15. The Cal/Nevada Championships, which is the first scored meet of the outdoor season, will wrap up March's portion of the schedule (Mar. 28-29).

The Bruin men will head to the prestigious Texas Relays April 2-5, with distance runners competing at the Stanford Invite April 4-5. The Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invite will be the second home meet of the season as the Bruins play host April 10-12 to what could be one of the biggest RJ/JJK meets of its history.

A select group of athletes will then compete at the Mt. SAC Relays April 17-20. The women's team will return to the Penn Relays April 23-26 as several members of the team hail from the Eastern region of the U.S. The men's team will compete at the UCSD Invite April 25-26, along with a few women's team members.

The annual rivalry meet with USC will be hosted at UCLA on May 2-3 to wrap up the regular season.

The conference championships begin May 9-10 in Tempe, AZ with the heptathlon/decathlon championships, while the main meet will be held May 16-17, also in Tempe. The NCAA West Region Championships return to CSUN (they hosted in 2004) May 30-31. The NCAA Outdoor meet has moved on from Sacramento, CA and will be held in Des Moines, IA June 11-14 to end the collegiate season.

The USATF Junior National Championships, which have been held simultaneously in recent years with the senior meet, will be held in Columbus, OH June 20-22. The U.S. Olympic Trials will run June 27-July 6 in Eugene, OR to determine the U.S. roster for the Beijing Olympic Games. Head women's coach Jeanette Bolden is the women's U.S. coach for the Games.
