Men's Basketball Preps For Tour Of Italy

Aug. 17, 2007

STANFORD, Calif.- With the start of the school year quickly approaching, the Stanford men's basketball team will make the most of what's left of the summer when the club heads to Italy for a 12-day tour beginning Monday, Aug. 20.

The Cardinal is scheduled to play six games against local competition in several cities, including Rome, Florence and Milan.

Players, coaches, administrators and support staff begin their journey Monday, with an early-morning flight out of San Francisco. The travel party will arrive in Rome on Tuesday morning, enjoy some sightseeing in the afternoon and attend a social at the residence of U.S. Ambassador to Italy Ronald P. Spogli later that evening.

The NCAA allows teams to travel overseas once every four years. The men's basketball program most previously toured Australia and New Zealand in 2001.

The Cardinal will wrap up its practice schedule with a scrimmage on Saturday and a final practice on Sunday morning.

The squad returns home on Friday, Aug. 31.
