SEATTLE, Wash. -- Wide receiver Anthony Russo went down a couple of weeks ago with a broken finger that forced him into a cast.

Stubborn as he is, the Washington fifth-year senior was out catching passes yesterday and says he will definitely be ready for the Syracuse game on September 31. After squeezing his hand to show that it was indeed strong again, he said that he will have stitches out on Tuesday and until then will continue to do what they allow him to do.

'I was out yesterday and this morning catching passes,' he said. 'I'm wearing a piece of plastic molded to my hand that allows me to go. I'm just making sure I am prepared, running and staying in shape so I can just jump right in like I didn't miss a beat.'

Corey Williams has stepped up his game in the absence of Russo, who said that Williams is, 'pretty much getting the gold jersey everyday.' Russo also had praise for the entire receiving core, saying that the Huskies have a dynamic offense.

'I see us getting better everyday,' he said. 'Jake [Locker] said he is ready to play right now. We're going to be good. Quintin [Daniels] had a great day yesterday. He probably would have had the gold jersey, but he had to go to class.'

'We really feel that we're a very dangerous offense and haven't even mentioned Louis [Rankin]. Louis is able to take the ball for a touchdown from anywhere.'

With Russo the Huskies have seven senior wide receivers on the roster, including Williams, Ellis, Daniels, Marcel Reese and himself with experience. In addition to another senior in the backfield in Rankin, Locker, a redshirt freshman, has a lot to work with.

Having his second leading receiver from 2006 would certainly help the effort. Russo caught 32 passes for 552 yards and two touchdowns a season ago, topped only by Sonny Shackelford. He figures to hold an even more significant role this season.

- Practice tomorrow (8/18) will be open to the public. It begins at 2:30 pm at Husky Stadium. Also at UW tomorrow the volleyball team will be holding two scrimmages, one at 11 am and the other at 6 pm. Both will be held on the main court at the Bank of America Arena. Parking anytime after noon will be free.

- Safety Jason Wells had the gold jersey on this morning.
