First Stanford Football Fan Fest: Cardinal Boot Camp 2007 A Success

Stanford, Calif. - The first Stanford Football Fan Fest: Cardinal Boot Camp 2007 provided enjoyment and fun for an estimated crowd of more than 2,000 people Saturday at Stanford Stadium. The event's highlights included a meet and greet session with the Stanford football players and coaches during a poster autograph session as well as live interviews with head coach Jim Harbaugh, several assistants and selected players that were broadcast on the stadium's large scoreboard video screens.
Other messages on the video board came from Director of Athletics Bob Bowlsby, Senior Associate Athletic Director Darrin Nelson, longtime Stanford Football broadcaster Bob Murphy. Also included were previous season highlights and numerous profiles of former football players who are now members of the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame.
The event also featured Radio Flyer 'Big Flyer' tricycle races, a rock climbing wall and the opportunity for young fans of the Cardinal to throw and kick the football around on the playing field during a football skills clinic. The Stanford Band entertained a crowd that included such former Stanford and NFL players as Greg Baty, Greg Clark, John Paye, 'Touchdown Tommy' Vardell and Kailee Wong. Providing an element of glamour to the gridiron festivities were the appearances of Ashley Miller, 'Miss Redwood City 2007', and Paula Sue Silva, 'Miss Oakland 2007'.
It really got me ready for football season,' said seven-year-old Devin Dohrmann of Redwood City.
Four-year-old brother Avery agreed, 'It was cool getting the football players' autographs, and I really like the Big Flyer trike races!'
In addition, fans were able to sneak a peak at available seats remaining for the upcoming season that begins versus UCLA at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, September 1 (12:30 pm, PT) in a game to be televised by FOX Sports Net.
The event was sponsored by The Bootleg, The Daily News Group, Great America, Hobee's, Jamba Juice, KZSU Sports 90.1 FM, Nike, Radio Flyer and the Stanford Stadium Shop. Cold Stone Creamery, Compadres, MacArthur Park, MINI of Mountain View and Scott's Seafood were other local businesses involved.
After the event, a large number of fans headed over to the Elliott Football Practice Fields to support the team by taking in a practice session.
