Bears Ranked 24th by SLAM Magazine

Aug. 20, 2007

BERKELEY - California, which returns seven lettermen from last year's squad, including double-digit scorers DeVon Hardin and Ryan Anderson, has been ranked 24th in SLAM Magazine's preseason poll.

The Golden Bears finished 16-17 in 2006-07 and boast one of the strongest front lines in the country, led by 6-11 senior DeVon Hardin and 6-10 sophomore Ryan Anderson. Hardin, who ranks fifth on Cal's all-time blocks list, averaged 10.7 ppg and 8.4 rpg in just 11 games last year before he injured his foot. Anderson, meanwhile, contributed 16.3 ppg and 8.2 rpg and was voted to the all-tournament team at the Pac-10 Tournament and to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

'DeVon Hardin returns healthy and will fill out a Youtube video full of some healthy posterizations so that he will be a lottery pick,' SLAM said in its evaluation of Cal.

In addition to the Bears, five other teams are in the SLAM rakings: No. 2 UCLA, No. 7 USC, No. 9, Arizona, No. 10 Stanford and No. 12 Washington State.
