Stanford's Buehler Selected as Preseason All-American
Aug. 20, 2007
Cardinal defender Rachel Buehler has been named a 2007 Soccer Buzz Preseason All-American, as announced by the magazine today. Buehler was one of 18 Division I players and one of five defenders selected to the elite squad, which recognizes the nation's most promising collegiate players.
Buehler, who was also named to the squad in 2006, is just the second player in Stanford history to be named a Preseason All-American. The first player was Nicole Barnhart, who received the honor in 2003. Buehler, who played for the U-21 National Team this past summer, will bring a wealth of experience to the Cardinal defensive unit this season. Last year, she anchored a defense that recorded 15 shutouts and only allowed .55 goals per game.
Two of the twelve programs represented on the squad were Pac-10 schools, as Danesha Adams, Lauren Cheney, and Christina DiMartino of UCLA also earned spots on the team. The ACC and the Pac-10 were the top conferences represented, with the ACC having five players named and the Pac-10 having four players named to the squad.
Buehler and the Cardinal open action at the BU Tournament, Friday August 31, against the Boston University Terriers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM PST at Nickerson Field in Boston, Mass.
