Tommy Milone Named Cape Cod League Pitcher Of The Year
Aug. 20, 2007
LOS ANGELES -- Junior left-hander Tommy Milone (Saugus/Saugus HS) was named winner of the 2007 B.F.C. Whitehouse Award as the Cape Cod Baseball League's top pitcher. Milone tied for the league lead in wins, going 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA for the Chatham A's.
He was one of four CCBL pitchers to record a shutout during the season and in 52 1/3 innings, he allowed seven walks while striking out 46 batters. Although his last start was a loss to the eventual league champion Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Milone allowed just three hits in 7 1/3 innings and walked only one batter to go with nine strikeouts.
Milone earned Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week honors earlier in the season by starting two games and pitching 15 innings (week of July 14-20). Against the Orleans Cardinals, the 6-1, 215-pound left-hander allowed just two hits and struck out six while giving up just one earned run and no walks. In his next start against the Cotuit Kettleers, he pitched a 5-0 complete game shutout. Milone struck out nine, walked only one and collected his fourth win against a single loss.
