SEATTLE - A week from today, the Washington football team will be in Syracuse, N.Y., preparing for the season opener the following day vs. the Orange at the Carrier Dome. Kickoff for the nationally-televised (ESPN) game is set for 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Meanwhile, back in Seattle, the team has begun to wrap up the 'fall camp' portion of the season and move into the true game preparation phase. In fact, Thursday's morning's schedule was much lighter than normal ahead of a single practice Thursday afternoon, during which the Huskies will spend considerable time in scrimmage situations.
Coach Tyrone Willingham met with the media at lunchtime and, asked if the players got a chance to sleep in, he replied, 'not as much as they would like. I still ask them to get to all their meals. But, given a choice to eat or sleep, they probably would have slept.'
Willingham said that this morning also marked a good chance for players to begin to bear down on film-watching to prepare for the first, while also taking time to recover from the last of two-a-day practices on Wednesday.
The coach was also asked about how many true freshmen might have a chance to play, or at least how many might be expected to travel to Syracuse. He wouldn't peg down a number yet, but that he thinks at least three. He also noted that he likes to talk to the players individually before revealing publicly who will make the travel squad.
The team will practice Thursday, Friday and Saturday before taking Sunday off. Next week, they'll have practices Monday (after the annual Kickoff Luncheon) and Tuesday before a midday flight to Syracuse Wednesday.
