Five Former Cougar Track & Field Greats Set to Compete at World Championships

PULLMAN, Calif. -- Washington State University has five alumni competing at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics (the international term for track and field), August 25-September 2, in Osaka, Japan. Four will compete for the United States while one will compete for Canada.
Diana Pickler, a 2007 WSU graduate, will compete in the women's heptathlon after finishing as the runner-up at the USA Championships in June in Indianapolis. Pickler has a personal-record best of 6,205 points and scored 6,029 points at the USA meet. She is a four-time All-American
Bernard Lagat will compete in the men's 5000m and 1500m races. Lagat won the 5k race and placed third in the 1500m race at the USA 2007 Championships after winning both events in 2006. He is a two-time Olympic and world outdoor medalist. He is the current American record-holder in the 1500m. Lagat's PRs are 3:29.68 for the 1500m, and 12:59.22 for the 5000m.
Ian Waltz will throw the discus at the World meet. Waltz was a 2005 Olympian and 2006 USA discus champion, and finished second at the recent USA meet. His discus PR is 223-0/67.98m. Waltz was an eight-time All-American while at WSU.
Dominique Arnold will compete in the men's 110m high hurdles. Arnold finished second at the 2007 USA Championships after winning the title in 2006. Arnold is the current American record-holder in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 12.90 seconds. He also won the bronze in the 60m hurdles at the 2006 World Indoor Championships and was the 1996 NCAA champion while at WSU.
Anson Henry will compete in the men's 4x100m relay as a member of the Canadian men's team. The sprinter has run on the relay team in the 2004 Olympic Games and the 2001 and 2003 World Championships. Henry was the 2004 and 2005 Canadian champion in the 200m.
