Leach and Five Former Bruins Ready to Compete at World Championships

Current Bruin and NCAA 400m hurdles champion Nicole Leach and five former Bruins will begin competition at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan on Saturday. The meet runs through September 2nd. Joining Leach are current volunteer throws coach Jessica Cosby (hammer), Amy Acuff (high jump), Suzy Powell Roos (discus), Michelle Perry (100m hurdles) and Sheena Johnson (400m hurdles).

Johnson and Leach earned medals at the PanAm Games last month in Brazil and are ranked second and seventh, respectively, in the hurdles event. Both will challenge for medals during the competition.

Perry is the top-ranked woman in the high hurdles with a time of 12.44.

Powell Roos holds the No. 2 mark in the world this season in the discus (222-0).

Acuff ranks 18th in the world in the high jump with a mark of 6-4.75, while Cosby enters the meet with a top hammer throw of 224-2.
