Taylor Falls In U.S. Amateur Quarterfinals
Aug. 24, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Washington sophomore golfer Nick Taylor's run at the 107th U.S. Amateur came to an end, Friday, suffering a 5 and 4 defeat to Colt Knost in the match-play quarterfinals.
Taylor, a native of Abbotsford, B.C., entered the match with some momentum, knocking off reigning NCAA champion Jamie Lovemark in the third round, Thursday, to earn his spot in the quarterfinals. Knost was another tough competitor for Taylor, having won this year's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
After Knost won the first hole in today's quarterfinal, Taylor came back and parred the second hole to even the score but then never led. Knost held as much as a 5up lead after 12 holes.
Taylor was aiming for his second straight tournament title of the summer, after winning the 2007 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship just last week.
