LAS VEGAS, Nev. The 2007 ASU volleyball season kicked off Friday night in Las Vegas as the Sun Devils faced off against the UNLV Rebels. The match saw Sydney Donahue put in a stellar 19 dig performance, but her efforts weren't enough as ASU fell 3-0 to UNLV. ASU takes on the Cavaliers at 10 a.m. followed with a 4:30 p.m. match versus the TTU Red Raiders.

Game One saw ASU fall 30-17, as Paige Mittelstaedt led the offense with four kills. The Sun Devils put up 43 total attacks, but UNLV was able to fend them off with Jada Walker grabbing eight digs for the Rebels.

Game Two saw ASU surge back with Paige Mittelstaedt and Margie Giordano haul in four kills apiece, followed with three each from Staci Smith and Sarah Reaves. Marina Mercer had 16 assists in the match while Donahue held down the defense with eight digs. The rally wasn't enough though as the Sun Devils fell just shy in a 30-28 loss.

Paige Mittelstaedt and Sarah Reaves stepped up again in Game Three with four kills apiece off of Mercer's 10 assists. The Rebels finished off the match though taking the third match, 30-23. The match saw UNLV's Jada Walker set a program record in digs with 34.

The Sun Devils fall to 0-1 after their opener, but will play two tomorrow as they take on the Virginia Cavaliers at 10 a.m. and the Texas Tech Raiders at 4:30 as the UNLV Tournament rolls on in Las Vegas at Cox Pavillion.
