Johnson Competes in World Championships

OSAKA, Japan - California runner Alysia Johnson just missed qualifying for the semifinals in the 800-meter run in the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan. Former Golden Bears Kristin Heaston and Grace Upshaw joined Johnson at the championships.
Johnson placed fourth in her heat, clocking in at 2:02.11. The top three runners in her heat advanced to the semifinals. Cuba's Zulia Calatayud placed third with a time of 2:01.81.
Heaston, competing in the shot put, also missed out on qualifying. Heaston came in 10th in her group, recording a mark of 17.40. The top seven athletes advanced.
Upshaw will compete in the long jump, which begins tomorrow.
