SEATTLE - The Washington Husky softball team will be traveling to the scenic town of Selah in Central Washington later this month to play Yakima Valley Community College and to host two youth clinics. The Huskies will face YVCC on Friday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. at Selah's Carlon Park, before hosting two clinics the following day.

According to Husky head coach Heather Tarr, this is the first time that the softball program has held clinics east of the Cascade Mountains in over 10 years.

'We are very excited to bring our young team to Selah to play a night game at the start of our fall season,' said Tarr, who is entering her fourth year as head coach. 'We are equally excited to provide the young softball players in the Yakima community a clinic in which they will have an opportunity to learn from our coaching staff and our student-athletes.'

On Saturday at Carlon Park, the Husky coaching staff and players will hold an All Skills Clinic and a Pitching Clinic. Both clinics have two different age groups, the first is ages 8-12, and the second group is ages 13-18.

Here is the schedule for Saturday, Sept. 22:

   • Huskies All Skills Clinic
       • Ages 8-12: 8:30-10:30 a.m.
       • Ages 13-18: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
   • Huskies Pitching Clinic
       • Ages 8-12: 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
       • Ages 13-18: 8:30-10:30 a.m.

The cost per person for one clinic is $30, or for both clinics the price is $55. All camp participants will receive a t-shirt.

In between the two sessions the public will have the chance to meet the Huskies from 10:30-11 a.m.

The Huskies are coming off a stellar campaign in 2007, one in which they reached the Women's College World Series for the eighth time in school history, and finished tied for third in the nation. Among the key returners this year will be senior shortstop Ashley Charters, who is a two-time All-American. Also back for UW, which went 42-18 in 2007, are senior outfielder Lauren Greer and junior outfielder Marnie Koziol. Both players were honorable mention All-Pac-10 selections a year ago.

To register for the clinic, please send check, payable to UW Softball, and the registration form to: UW Softball, Graves Annex Box 354080, Seattle, WA 98195.
