Aug. 31, 2007
BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Washington State volleyball team defeated Montana State three games to none Friday night in Shroyer Gym at the Montana State Holiday Inn Classic to move to 6-0 on the season. The game scores were WSU 30-23, 30-28, 20-28.
WSU was led by the 14 kills of Brittany Johnson while Tara West (.667) and Jackie Albright added another 13 kills. Freshman Brittany Tillman had a match-high eight blocks while setter Maureen Perez had 43 assists and a team-high 13 digs.
The Bobcats (0-5) were led by Laura Viren and Wendy Doutre with nine kills each and Doutre added five blocks. Meghan Albiston had a match-high 14 digs. Sarah Allen had 25 assists.
'The games were actually pretty close but I thought our team did a better job tonight coming out right from the start and being competitive,' Cougar Head Coach Brian Heffernan said. 'We served tough, passed the ball well and hit very efficiently. Montana State is a very scrappy team and they started digging a lot of balls and we started making some of errors as the match wore on and that made games two and three pretty close. But I was pleased with our athletes' poise to pull it out and am looking forward to playing Texas A&M in the morning.'
The Cougars take on Texas A&M (4-0) Saturday morning and Utah State Saturday afternoon in the Montana State Holiday Inn Classic at Bozeman.
