NO. 11 California Volleyball Drops UNC-Wilmington At Colorado Invitational, 3-0

Boulder, Colo. - No. 11 California (5-0) continued its early season success with a 3-0 victory (30-16, 30-14, 30-13) against the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington (1-6). Senior outside hitter Angie Pressey led the Bears with a strong game, posting 11 kills without an error on only 14 attempts. For the second match in a row, Pressey also led the team in digs with six.
California put on an impressive show of hitting precision, chalking up 43 kills on 57 attempts with only three errors all match. The Bears' .702 hitting percentage is a season high and outpaces the previous team match record of .467 (at San Francisco, 11/20/01).
The Bear defense stood tall again, holding UNCW to a negative hitting percentage, all the while putting up 24 blocks. Junior outside hitter Morgan Beck and sophomore middle hitter Mindi Wiley each contributed six kills to the Cal effort.
Sophomore middle hitter Kat Reilly also enjoyed a great outing, putting up five kills of her own and turning away seven Seahawk attempts to post her second straight match with seven blocks. Sophomore defensive specialist Kristen Kathan had the touch, serving a career-high five service aces.
The Bears have now started each of the last three seasons with a perfect 5-0 record, sweeping each opponent to hold a 15-0 mark in games each season. California will face tournament host Colorado at 12 p.m. (MST) on Sunday, as they set aim on winning a twelfth consecutive regular season tournament.
