Sept. 1, 2007
The Washington mens' varsity eight beat a field that included Cambridge, Oxford and Moscow State University in the 2007 Moscow Race of Champions on the Moskva River in Russia, according to an account on www.huskycrew.com.
The Huskies, who won the 2007 IRA championship last spring, finished ahead of Cambridge to earn the win Saturday night in Moscow, in a race that was part of the Russian capital's 'Day of Moscow' activities, marking the 860th anniversary of the founding of the city.
The website www.huskycrew.com reported that the UW finished first, Cambridge second, Oxford third and Moscow State fourth. The report stated that the Huskies led from the start and never trailed on a rough race course.
The 3,500-meter course on the Moskva River sent the crews past the Kremlin and Red Square.
When more information is received from the UW coaches, more information on the races will be added here.
