A Postcard from Tim Morris

THESSALONIKI, Greece -- Hello, this is Tim Morris from Athens, Greece.

The trip has been a lot of fun so far. We have been to Thessaloniki, Trikala, and now Athens. I don't want to be too quick to judge, since we have only been in Athens for one day, but Thessaloniki has been my favorite city by far. The hotel was beautiful, the town had its own character, and it was right on the Adriatic Sea.

Trikala was also a pleasant place to visit even though it was 110 degrees when we got there. Imagine a barn, which the gym was transformed from, in this kind of heat. After the game I wrung my jersey out and could have filled up a couple cups of water. It was pretty hot.

Trikala was more of a country town, but the natural beauty was amazing. There were magnificent rock formations, and monasteries from the 16th century built at the tops of many of them.

Visiting these monasteries was a great experience, they were some of the most peaceful places I have ever been to. I felt like I could have sat up there all day.

After leaving Trikala and the monasteries, we had a long five-hour drive to Athens.

Arriving in Athens was a surprise for me. Before coming, I pictured Athens as a classic beautiful city, but its kind of ugly and dirty with a monument sprinkled here and there. Not to down play the monuments, as the view of the Acropolis from the hotel is pretty cool. But as a whole, I am a little disappointed with Athens. I am really looking forward to the cruise were taking on the last day though.

It is also great to be playing and competing again against real competition, not just in practice. I had to sit out last year and it was tough to watch games without being ale to play.

The games here in Greece have been a lot of fun, and I am really looking forward to the actual season starting as well.

That's it for now from Greece,

--Tim
