USC's Cross Country Team Takes Sixth At CS Fullerton Season Opener

Trojan sophomore Bridget Helgerson placed seventh at the Cal State Fullerton Season Opener cross country meet on Saturday (Sept. 1) with a career-best time of 18:37.50 to lead USC to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.

It was the second consecutive season that Helgerson led USC in the season opener at Fullerton. Her previous best 5K time was also set in Fullerton at the CSUF Invitational on Oct. 20, 2006, the last regular season meet of 2006.

Junior Taylor Carroll was USC's second finisher, placing 29th with a time of 19:35.30 in her first official meet as a Trojan after transferring in last season.

Also figuring in the scoring for USC were sophomore Chanel Fischetti who placed 33rd with a time of 19:48.30, followed by junior Christine Green at 40th with a time of 20:00.20, freshman Zara Lukens at 41st with a time of 20:02.90, freshman Briana Bentley in 42nd with a time of 20:03.00 and sophomore Lexi Nichols in 55th place with a time of 20:36.10.

Other Trojan runners were sophomore Jennifer Wells (20:46.90), sophomore Natalie Jarvey (22:06.70) and junior Allison Spies (22:40.60).

Host Cal State Fullerton won the meet. The Women of Troy will next be in action on Sept. 15 at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
