Courtney Crane on ASU Soccer: Opening Weekend
Sept. 4, 2007
So when the coaches asked me to write this weekly diary, I was totally stoked to do it, but what I didn't think about was how hard it would be to have to write about a loss. As most of you loyal fans probably already know, we came out of the weekend with one win and one loss...that's one loss more then we had hoped for.
Now, although the details of the games are important, I believe that it's what we take out of our first loss that is even more significant. I'd like to note that I feel the team really came together on Sunday and although we lost, there was much improvement from our Friday night game. I think that it is crucial at this point that we realize this and keep our heads up. As a team, constant improvement is our goal and as hard as it is to admit with a loss under our belt, I feel this was still accomplished this weekend and for this, I am very proud of my team. I believe that one can gain just as much from a loss as one can gain from a win. No doubt, we are all really bummed, but I hope that we can learn from this loss and use it as motivation in our games to come. I know that it's killing me to have to wait until Friday to play our next game because all I want to do is get out there and try again.
We love soccer, this is why we play. This is why we are Sun Devils. Being a Sun Devil means being held to a higher standard. On the field, in the classroom and in life; excellence is always expected. Being a Sun Devil is taking the road less traveled, taking a chance. It is learning, failing, growing and succeeding. Win, lose or tie, we will always be passionate about what we do. This is why I love my team. This is why I love being a Sun Devil. This loss will not bring us down; it will only make us stronger.
