Sept. 4, 2007
Quarterback Ben Olson was named the U.S. Bank Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after an impressive opening day showing versus Stanford in which he threw five touchdown passes. Also earning weekly honors were linebacker Robert James of Arizona State and punt returner DeSean Jackson of California.
Olson, a junior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., led UCLA to a season-opening 45-17 Pac-10 victory at Stanford. He completed 16 of 29 passes for 286 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions. His five touchdowns went to four different receivers and he directed the Bruins to 624 yards of total offense with no turnovers. It is the second year in a row Olson has been named offensive player of the week in the opening week of the season, having also been honored following UCLA's opening day victory against Utah last season.
The Bruins open up at home on Saturday at 3:30 pm versus Brigham Young University.
