AROUND THE LEAGUE:Pac-10 women's soccer opened the 2007 season with a 12-6-0 (.667) record ... Five teams remain unbeaten in CALIFORNIA (2-0-0), OREGON (2-0-0), STANFORD (2-0-0), USC (2-0-0) and WASHINGTON STATE (1-0-0) ... The Cardinal picked up a pair of big wins, including a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Connecticut on Sunday ... SO F Kelley O'Hara scored two game-winning goals over the weekend and added an assist in the win over Boston University on Friday to tally five points in two games ... O'Hara's teammate, SR D Rachel Buehler was one of four Pac-10 players named to the Soccer America Preseason All-American team, which was announced late last week ... Buehler was joined on the 23-member squad by the UCLA trio of JR MF/F Danesha Adams, SO F Lauren Cheney and JR F Christina DiMartino ... USC is off to a stellar start and Soccer Buzz has taken notice, placing the Women of Troy at No. 13 in this week's Top-30 poll, after not being ranked at all in the preseason poll ... No. 13 marks USC's highest ranking by the publication since the 2000 season ... The Trojans have a welcomed addition in FR F Megan Ohai who scored three goals, including the game-winner, in her collegiate debut this past weekend ... Through two games she leads the team in goals (3), points (6), game-winners (2) and shooting percentage (.750) ... Two Conference players have netted the game-winning goal in their team's season-opener for the second straight year ... Washington State SR F Brooke Bemis tallied a goal in the 59th minute against Montana on Friday, to secure the Cougars' 2-1 come-from-behind win ... It was Bemis' fourth career goal ... California JR F Valerie Barnes also provided the game-winning goal for the second straight season as she came up with a 20-yard shot in the 58th minute against Columbia on Friday ... Barnes was named the MVP of the Cal Invitational ... Oregon, ranked 19th by the Soccer Buzz publication for the second straight week, picked up two wins over the weekend as SR F Tiffany Smith hit two game-winners to earn four points on the weekend ... Smith now has six career goals, and of the six, five have been game-winning goals.
OREGON STATE SENIOR FORWARD JODIE TAYLOR NAMED PAC-10 WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- OREGON STATE senior forward Jodie Taylor has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 28- Sept. 3, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Taylor, from Merseyside, England, broke the Oregon State record for career goals (35) with a two-shot, two-goal performance in a win against Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
In the 50th minute, the ball came to a streaking Taylor who scored on a drive down the right side of the box, placing a 16-yard shot into the upper corner of the net. She also netted a penalty kick in the 57th minute to secure the 2-0 win over the Matadors.
Taylor came back on Monday at No. 4 Portland with her third goal of the season, breaking the Beavers' all-time points record (87). Through two games played, Taylor has accounted for all three of OSU's goals.
This is Taylor's second weekly honor and the sixth all-time award for the Beavers.
