Former Cardinal Greats Take on Cal, USC and UCLA in Legends Cup

Five former Stanford tennis stars will take part in The Hennessy Funds Alumni Legends Cup on September 8 and 9 at the Tiburon Peninsula Club in Tiburon, Calif. Sam Warburg, Paul Goldstein, Alex O'Brien, Scott Davis and Roscoe Tanner will represent the Cardinal in an event that pits top players from Stanford, Cal, USC and UCLA.
The Stanford players will compete against California on September 8 at 2:00 p.m. The Hennessy Funds Alumni Legends Cup Final will take place on September 9 at 10:30 a.m.
Teams are comprised of players that span the past four decades. Plaeyrs are grouped in age groups of 20's, 30's, 35's, 40's and 50's.
Warburg, the 2004 and 2005 Pac-10 Player of the Year, is Stanford's entry in the 20s age bracket. Goldstein, the team captain and owner of 26 USTA Challenger Titles, is in the 30s group. O'Brien, the 1991 and 1992 Pac-10 Player of the Year, is in the 35s group, while Davis, a 3-time All-American at Stanford, is in the 40s bracket. 1973 graduate and 3-time All-American Roscoe Tanner rounds out the Cardinal field in the 50s age group.
The Cup also offers an exhibition match featuring former world number one legend Pete Sampras taking on San Francisco native and rising tennis star Sam Querrey. That match will be held on September 9 at 3:00 p.m.
