Volleyball Hits The Road To Utah For UVSC Invitational

The Arizona State Sun Devils (3-4 overall, 0-0 Pac-10) will hit the road again this Friday as they head to Orem,

Utah to compete in the UVSC Invitational. The tournament will also feature Utah Valley State College, San

Jose State and Weber State. The Sun Devils will kick off play on Friday, Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m. as they set to take

on the San Jose State Spartans (4-2). The Sun Devils will then set to face Weber State (3-1) and host-school

Utah Valley State (3-1) on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Recapping Last Weekend:

The Sun Devils opened up the 2007 home season last weekend by hosting the Hilton Phoenix/East Mesa

Challenge which saw them grab three wins and a tough 3-2 loss over the weekend. The Sun Devils topped

Long Island 3-0, Iowa State 3-2 and NAU 3-0, but fell 3-2 in a gritty match against the currently undefeated

New Mexico Lobos. Sydney Donahue had 88 digs on the weekend to help her cause to become the holder

of the all-time Pac-10 career digs record. She now has 1,914 career digs and needs only 157 more to tie

the all-time record and inch up in NCAA record books.

Series History vs. San Jose State:

Against the San Jose Spartans the Sun Devils are currently 1-1 all-time. Their last meeting was on September

1, 2000 for the season opener where the Spartans just edged ASU 3-2.

Series History vs. Weber State:

Arizona State has a

fl awless 8-0 record all-time against Weber State, with their last meeting coming on

November 30, 2002 in Las Vegas. The Sun Devils came away with a 3-0 win with four Sun Devils each

amassing 11 kills apiece.

Series History vs. Utah Valley State:

ASU currently 1-0 against the Wolverines with their last meeting coming last season in the opening

weekend tournament hosted by ASU. The Sun Devils won 3-0 with Nicole Morton leading the offense

with 12 kills and Sydney Donahue with 15 digs.

Quick Sets -- Release Highlights:

• Libero Sydney Donahue has recorded 10 or more digs in 78 of her 92 career matches, including a

streak of 45 matches with 10 or more digs dating back to October 21, 2005 vs. USC.

•

Sydney Donahue also currently holds the Pac-10 lead in digs and digs per game. After two weeks

Donahue has 169 digs for a 6.26 per-game average. She currently holds the Pac-10 single-game match

high total as well with 45 against Virginia on August 25th.

• The Sun Devils also hold the lead for service aces in a match in the Pac-10 with their 10 against

Long Island on August 31st.

• Sophomore Paige Mittelstaedt is tied for lead in the Pac-10 for solo blocks in a match with her four

against Iowa State on September 1st.
