Cal Baseball to Host Papa Bear Alumni Game

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The California baseball program will be adding a Papa Bear Alumni Game to its plans for its Oct. 13-15, 2007 Cal Baseball Alumni Weekend.
On Sunday, Oct. 14, the Papa Bear Alumni Game, featuring former Cal baseball players competing against each other, will begin at 10 a.m. at Evans Diamond. Participants in the Papa Bear Game can check in at the baseball locker room between 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. for uniforms and equipment. For details on the Papa Bear Game contact Bob Tulk at 925-785-0143.
Following the Papa Bear Game, the annual Cal Baseball Alumni Game will be held at 1:00 p.m. and will feature former Golden Bear players versus the 2008 Cal baseball team. The Cal Baseball Alumni Day was first established by former Bear coaching great Clint Evans in 1946. Cal, featuring two 2007 All-Pac-10 selections - junior right-hander Tyson Ross and junior first baseman David Cooper, will open its regular 2008 season with three home games at Evans Diamond the Feb. 22-24, 2008 weekend. On Feb. 22, Cal plays Kansas State at 1:30 p.m.; on Saturday, Feb. 23 the Bears will play a doubleheader against Utah Valley State beginning at 11 a.m.; and on Sunday, Feb. 24, Cal will play Kansas State at 1 p.m. in a single game.
Other highlights for the 2007 Cal Baseball Alumni Weekend include the Saturday, Oct. 13 Cal-Oregon State Homecoming football game at Memorial Stadium (time TBA). On Monday, Oct. 15, the Bullpen Club Golf Classic will be held at the Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. beginning at 10 a.m. with check in at 8:30 a.m. The tournament is open to both men and women and the deadline for tournament entry is October 1. The tournament will be strictly limited to 144 players.
The cost to play in the Bullpen Golf Classic is $300 per person. There will be a dinner, as well as a silent and live auction following the tournament that will benefit the 2008 Cal Baseball Team. If you don't enjoy golf, you can still join us for dinner and the auction for just $25 per person.
