Stanford Takes Third at 2007 Topy Cup

The No. 1 Stanford men's golf team finished third at the 2007 Topy Cup U.S.-Japan Intercollegiate Golf Championship today in Tanagura, Japan after shooting a one-over, 289 in the final round. The Cardinal finished with a 17-under three-round total of 847 (282-276-289). Tokoku Fukushi University won the tournament with an 842, and Alabama finished second at 843.
Cardinal freshman Sihwan Kim shot a 2-under, 70 in the final round and finished tied for third in his first collegiate tournament with a 9-under 207 (70-67-70). Senior Rob Grube also posted a top-10 finish, tying for ninth with a three-round total of 211 (67-72-72), while junior Daniel Lim tied for 13th with a 213 (72-69-72). Rounding out the Stanford competitors were sophomore Joseph Bramlett who tied for 21st with a 219 (73-68-78) and junior Dodge Kemmer who finished tied for 44th at 229 (77-77-75).
Alabama's Joseph Sykora took top honors with a 14-under, 202 for the tournament.
Stanford returns to action at the Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago at the end of the month. The tournament, hosted by the University of Illinois, runs Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Olympia Fields Golf Club.
