Bruins Battle Back to Beat Anteaters

IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Rachell Johnson led all players with 18 kills, juniors Ali Daley and Kaitlin Sather each added double figures in kills and junior Nellie Spicer moved into fifth on the all-time assists list, as UCLA came back from dropping game one to win in four, 27-30, 30-20, 30-20, 30-17, against UC Irvine on Friday at Crawford Court.

The Bruins win their fifth in a row to improve to 5-1, while the Anteaters drop their second straight to fall to 6-2. Daley added 13 digs with her 14 kills for her fourth double-double of the season, while Sather had seven digs with her 13 kills.

Spicer had 49 assists, and with her 40th moved past Kim Coleman for fifth on the Bruins' all-time assist list, also adding 13 digs for a double-double. UCLA also received great play from sophomore Elise Carstensen, who had five kills with no errors in 11 swings to go with a career-high seven blocks. Junior Jade Machado had a team-high 16 digs, with freshman Jazmin Machado also posting double figures in digs with 10.

The Bruins continue play at the UC Irvine/Nike Invitational on Saturday when they face William and Mary at 11 a.m. and Southern Mississippi at 5 p.m. Gametracker will be available for both matches at
