Greeting from Greece
Sept. 5, 2007
ATHENS, Greece -- Hey, this is Joel Smith in Greece.
We just got done playing the last game in Athens. This team, Daphni, as all the other teams was a very good shooting team. It was a physical game.
All and all we had a lot of fun playing against the Greek professional teams. They play a little different than teams in the U.S. In the long run it will help us when the basketball season starts.
I can't tell you how good it was to finally play in games again after missing last season. I'm healthy now and ready to go this year.
The day after our last game, we all went on a cruise!! We went to three different islands.
We stopped off for a little while and walked around Poros. The second island was Hydra where everyone was jumping in the water off of cliffs. Well not any big cliffs. We also went to Aegina and swam there tooo.
It is so hot here, it seems like everyone got a little bit darker form being in that sun for 10 days!!
One of the things that I liked most about Greece would be just how beautiful it was everywhere we went. Athens was like a compact LA. There are so many people, and I am a people person. I could see myself enjoying the stay there if I was to go back, but I would have to learn some of the language first.
It will be good to be back home where I can read the signs and understand what people are talking about. The Greek alphabet uses different letters. Some of the signs here are also in English, but most of them are all Greek.
The first thing I'm going to eat when I get home is a hamburger, with a bun. In Greece I ate steak as much as possible. A lot of their food is served on pita bread. They also serve a lot of chicken and pork. I also ate a lot of pasta.
The first thing I'm going to do when I get home is take a long nap. Our trip home will take 24 hours from when we leave Athens to arrive in Seattle.
See ya in Sea-Town,
