Katie Burkhart And Kaitlin Cochran To Tryout For USA Softball's Olympic Team

Sept. 7, 2007

TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior pitcher, Katie Burkhart and junior outfielder, Kaitlin Cochran, both 2007 All-Americans, have been invited to the upcoming Women's National Team Olympic Selection Camp scheduled for September 10-14 in Chula Vista, Calif. This will be one of the most historic camps ever held by USA Softball because this could be the last opportunity these players have compete in an Olympic Games. The team selected will go on to represent the United States at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, the last Olympic Games for the sport of softball until at least 2016.

The 2007 USA Softball Women's National Team just completed one of its most successful summers in recent history. They posted a perfect 20-0 record on their way to three gold medals that included their second World Cup title, sixth consecutive Pan Am gold medal and top honors at the Canada Cup. During those three events, the Red, White and Blue outscored their opponents 164-4 while posting a batting average of .426. The pitching staff held opponents to a .115 batting average.
