No. 4 USC Wins First Road Match With 3-1 Decision At Utah

LOS ANGELES -- Senior outside hitter Diane Copenhagen (Saratoga/St. Francis HS) used 18 kills Friday to lead the No. 4 USC Women of Troy to a 3-1 victory over the host Utah Utes (30-14, 30-28, 22-30, 30-19) in Salt Lake City. The Trojans used a match-high .500 hitting performance (17-3-28) in game four for the win in their first road match of the season, improving to 8-0 overall.
Copenhagen also had 14 digs in the match. Freshman Kimmee Roleder (Pasadena/Pasadena HS) added 14 kills for USC while senior All-American Asia Kaczor (Wroclaw, Poland/College of Southern Idaho) had 11 kills. Freshman libero Geena Urango (Los Alamitos/Los Alamitos HS) had 20 digs while freshman middle blocker Zoe Garrett (Laguna Beach/Laguna Beach HS) had seven kills and seven block assists.
Three Utah (2-4) players had 11 kills in the match: Stephanie Shardlow, Kathryn Haynie and Whitney Webb. Middle blocker Karolina Bartkowiak had 11 block assists for the Utes.
USC will play at the 2007 Sports Imports Classic next weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The Trojans play host No. 20 Ohio State on Friday (Sept. 14) and Purdue on Saturday (Sept. 15).
