Sept. 7, 2007
The USC men's golf team, ranked No. 6 in the 2007 Golf World Preseason poll, begins its fall schedule at the seventh-annual Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 10-11) at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
The 16-team field that will play on the par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness course includes host Toledo, USC, No. 4 Florida, No. 15 Florida State, Indiana, Kent State, Kentucky, No. 19 Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Texas A&M, TCU, UNC Greensboro and UNLV (rankings from Golf World).
Teams will begin 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and will start at 8 a.m. again on Tuesday for the final 18 holes.
USC, which won last year's tournament by three strokes, will be without All-American and 2007 NCAA individual title winner Jamie Lovemark, who is representing the United States at the 2007 Walker Cup in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 8-9).
Junior Tom Glissmeyer and sophomore Rory Hie, who saw action in all 11 of USC's tournaments in 2006-07, will make the trip for the second year in a row. Glissmeyer finished fifth (a season-best) last year while Hie tied for 20th. After Lovemark, Hie had the second lowest stroke average (72.41) on the squad and Glissmeyer (72.88) the third lowest.
Junior Ryan Linton, played in four events as a sophomore, is the other veteran of the squad. Rounding out the quintet headed to Toledo are freshmen Tim Sluiter of the Netherlands and Gavin Reid of Ireland.
