Volleyball Falls To San Jose State 3-1 In Day One Of UVSC Invitational

Sept. 7, 2007

OREM, Utah - The Sun Devil Volleyball team hit the court again Friday as they kicked off day one of the Utah Valley State Invitational as they faced off against the San Jose State Spartans. The Sun Devils were led by Paige Mittelstaedt with 16 kills and Sarah Reaves with 15 kills as Sydney Donahue pulled in 20 digs on the night. The effort wasn't enough for the Sun Devils as they fell to the Spartans 3-1. The Sun Devils fall to 3-5 on the year as San JoseState improves to 5-2.

The game tallies went 31-29, 27-30, 30-27, 30-25 on the night, but the Sun Devils weren't able to clinch as according to Head Coach Brad Saindon, 'We're in a hard spot right now, we have a lot of young players in key positions and they've been doing well, but they're still young. We've been hurt a lot by injuries, especially with Kristen Trayser out at the moment with a shoulder injury, it hurts us a lot offensively. The newcomers are without a doubt getting better, but they are still only freshmen and sophomore. We know we'll get through this and start gelling as the freshman get more experience and we get our upperclassmen healthy, but we need to ride it out and play every point as hard as we can.'

Up next the Sun Devil will take on WeberState and UtahValley tomorrow as the Utah Valley State Invitational continues tomorrow.
