No. 15 California Volleyball Defeats Eastern Kentucky 3-0

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The No. 15 California women's volleyball team (7-1) continued to roll at 2007 Golden Bear Invitational, sweeping (30-16, 30-16, 30-19) the Eastern Kentucky Colonels (1-7) today at Haas Pavilion.
The Bears were led by senior captain middle hitter Ellen Orchard who tied a career-high with 16 kills (20att, 1e) hitting for a team high .750 in the match. Junior outside hitter Morgan Beck also hit .750, collecting seven kills on 8 attempts with only one error. The team had 52 kills altogether and hit a stellar .449 for the match.
In the other noon-time match, the No. 12 Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-2) defeated Utah State (2-6) for the 3-0 sweep (30-19, 30-28, 30-21). The Gophers put up 20 blocks as a team and held the Aggies to .128 hitting for the match.
Utah State will take on Eastern Kentucky in a 4 p.m. match before the Golden Bear Invitational concludes with a match-up between ranked teams. No. 15 California will play host to the 12th-ranked Gophers at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet.
