Cal Shuts Out Vermont, 4-0

MORAGA, Calif. - No. 15 California posted its fourth consecutive shutout with a 4-0 triumph over Vermont Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Saint Mary's Fall Soccer Classic at Saint Mary's Stadium. The Golden Bears improved to 4-0, while the Catamounts fell to 1-2-1.
Cal led 2-0 at the half with goals from Torrey Delaplane in the 18th minute and senior midfielder Caitlin Hannegan in the 23rd minute. The Bears finished their scoring with a 59th-minute goal from sophomore midfielder Katie Oakes and a 77th-minute penalty kick conversion by redshirt sophomore forward Katherine Daiss.
Cal outshot Vermont, 29-5, with Daiss, Delaplane and junior forward Valerie Barnes leading the way with five shots each. The Bears also held a 16-4 edge in shots on goal with five by Daiss and four by Delaplane.
Senior forward Stephanie Wieger tallied two assist, and Daiss also had an assist in 45 minutes of action.
The Bears return to action at Cal State Fullerton Friday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m.
