No. 7 Cal Upended by Wisconsin in adidas Cal Legacy Classic
Sept. 9, 2007
BERKELEY - After earning shutouts in its first two games of the season, the No. 7 California men's soccer team got a taste of its own medicine, falling to Wisconsin, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Edwards Stadium in the adidas Cal Legacy Classic. With the victory, the Badgers took home the tournament title.
The game's only goal was scored in the 42nd minute. Wisconsin's Eric Conklin found Pablo Delgado near the top of the box. Delgado booted a ball in the bottom far side of the net. The score was one of only four shots on goal for the Badgers (3-1).
Just like against Penn on Friday, senior Andrew Jacobson provided the offensive spark for the Golden Bears (2-1). In the second half, he took two shots that just went over the crossbar. Jacobson ended the game with five shots and two shots on goal.
Senior Javier Ayala-Hil and junior Pat Marion both had golden opportunities to score, taking shots that just ticked off the post. Ayala-Hil and Marion each recorded a shot on goal as well. The Bears also out shot Wisconsin 15-9. Cal had numerous scoring chances in the second half, but just couldn't get the ball in the net.
The Bears return to action Friday, Sept. 14, at San Francisco at 7 p.m. Cal returns to Edwards Stadium Sunday, Sept. 16, against No. 5 Santa Clara at 2 p.m.
