UCLA SOPHOMORE GOALKEEPER BRIAN PERK NAMEDPAC-10 MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- UCLA sophomore goalkeeper Brian Perk has been named the Pac-10 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 4- 10, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Perk, from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., helped the Bruins end their losing streak by playing 110 shutout minutes in goal as UCLA tied No. 17 Creighton, 0-0. Perk had three saves in this game, with two of them occurring in the first half.
The first save occurred in the seventh minute when Perk stopped a close range shot by Creighton's Mo Travis and defended the goal on the ensuing corner kick with a jump to take the service away. In the 20th minute, Creighton earned a free kick at the top of the box, but Perk saved the shot by diving for the ball.
Perk's final save came in the last 30 seconds of the game when he stopped a shot by Creighton's Chris Shuler to preserve the shutout.
