UCLA Ranked No. 2 in GolfWeek Preseason Poll

Sept. 12, 2007

The UCLA men's golf team is ranked No. 2 in GolfWeek's 2007 preseason poll and fifth in the coaches' poll conducted by GolfWorld.

The Bruins return eight lettermen and four players from the fivesome that finished seventh at the 2007 NCAA Championship. Second-team All-American Kevin Chappell, a senior who led the Bruins with a 71.5 scoring average, will be the team's most experienced player. Juniors Erik Flores, a 2006 All-American, and Lucas Lee, a 2007 3rd Team All-America selection, also are veterans with 150 collegiate rounds of experience between them.

In addition, the Bruins will welcome freshman Philip Francis, considered by many experts to be the top recruit of the class of 2007. Francis has won more than 100 junior tournaments, including the 2006 U.S. Junior Championship. Also expected to immediately impact the team is freshman Connor Driscoll, ranked among the nation's Top 20 junior players.
