Sept. 12, 2007
SEATTLE - The Washington Husky softball team has announced its Fall and Winter Pitching, Hitting and Coaches Clinic Series. The Husky coaching staff and players will hold evening pitching and hitting clinics on six different dates throughout the fall and winter, in addition to three various clinics on other dates.
The Pitching and Hitting Evening Clinics will be held in the fall on October 17, November 14 and December 5, and in the winter on January 15, 22 and 29. Each clinic will have four sessions, two pitching and two hitting. Each session will be on hour long and cost $30. The clinics are for players ages 8-18, and will be held in the Dempsey Indoor Facility located on the UW campus.
On Sunday, November 18, the Husky coaching staff will host a 'Super Pitching Clinic' featuring two pitching coaches from New Zealand. UW assistant coach Eve Gaw has invited New Zealand natives Mike White and Russell Cooper to help instruct during the clinic. White is a former college pitching coach and a U.S. Men's National Team member, while Cooper was twice named to the New Zealand Men's National Team as a pitcher. The clinic is for ages 10-18 and is limited to the first 25 pitchers. Cost is $75, and each player must provide their own catcher.
Coaches are invited to attend and watch the 'Super Pitching Clinic' as well. This is a total learning tool for all coaches interested in teaching the skill of pitching. Cost is $25, and there will be Q & A time with the Husky staff, White and Cooper.
On Saturday, January 26, Huskies head coach Heather Tarr and her staff will host the Annual UW Softball Coaches Clinic from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Dempsey Indoor Facility. Cost is $125 per coach (groups of 4 or more lowers the cost to $100 per coach), and includes lunch and a notebook.
Through the Coaches Clinic, coaches will develop sound and usable information of many aspects of the game. The topics will focus on aspects of fundamentals and troubleshooting flaws in softball players. Topics will include throwing, hitting fundamentals and drills, catching, pitching, beginning to advance infield and outfield play, situational defense, bunting, base running, slapping, and strength and conditioning.
The final clinic will be an All Skills Clinic held on Sunday, January 27, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Through the All Skills Clinic, players ages 8-18 will have an opportunity to develop skills in several areas such as infield defense, hitting and pitching. The clinic will be conducted by the UW coaching staff and players, and the cost is $75.
