Fernandes Helps Volleyball Top Tulane 3-1

TEMPE, Ariz. - With 18 kills for a .484 hitting percentage and three blocks, Danielle Fernandes stepped up to have a huge night for the Sun Devil Volleyball team as they beat the Tulane Green Wave 3-1 Friday night in Tempe. The Sun Devils went 30-25, 26-30, 30-27 and 30-22 over the Wave as they took the win, advancing to 7-5 on the season as Tulane falls to 9-3.


Game one saw the Sun Devils quietly hold the Wave as they won 30-25 before Tulane stormed back in game two to win 30-26 with a .378 hitting percentage led by Ksenija Vlaskovic's seven kills and .312 attack percentage.


That was all the Sun Devils allowed the Wave though coming out in game three with a .366 hitting percentage with Danielle Fernandes blasting away seven kills to lead ASU to a 30-27 win. ASU put it away in game four with their match-high .368 hitting percentage and with Sarah Reaves' seven kills and .538 attack percentage to put it away with a decisive 30-22 win.


Sydney Donahue collected 23 more digs on the night as she chips away at the Pac-10 record. She now stands 27 digs from tying the all-time Pac-10 career digs record and with her career total of 2044 she stands at third in Pac-10 history with the possibility of breaking the record tomorrow night.


Next up, the Sun Devils will wrap the Crowne Plaza/Phoenix Airport Classic tomorrow with a game against VirginiaCommonwealth at 2 p.m. Tournament action starts at 10 a.m. with all games being played in ASU's Wells Fargo Arena.
