Trojans Improve To 10-0 With 3-0 Sweep Of Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Senior All-America outside hitter Asia Kaczor (Wroclaw, Poland/College of Southern Idaho) led with 16 kills without recording an error Saturday as the No. 4 USC Women of Troy swept the Purdue Boilermakers, 3-0 (30-17, 30-19, 30-18), at the 2007 Sports Imports Classic. Kaczor hit .471 in the match (16-0-34) as USC improved to 10-0 overall.
The Trojans hit .411 in the match, including a robust .526 (21-1-38) in game one. Senior outside hitter Diane Copenhagen (Saratoga/St. Francis HS) had 11 kills, 14 digs and a .455 hitting performance (11-1-22) while freshman Kimmee Roleder (Pasadena/Pasadena HS) had 13 kills and 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Zoe Garrett (Laguna Beach/Laguna Beach HS) hit .500 in the match (8-1-14) while freshman libero Geena Urango (Los Alamitos/Los Alamitos HS) had 21 digs and tied a personal-best this season with four service aces.
Stephanie Lynch led the Boilermakers (7-4) with 12 kills and a .435 hitting clip, but USC held Purdue to a .115 afternoon.
USC dominated early in all three games, starting the match with an 11-4 run. At 18-12, the Trojans reeled an 8-1 run as Kaczor finished the run with two kills. It was more of the same in game two as USC pulled away from a 9-4 margin with eight straight for the commanding 17-4 advantage. Three of Urango's aces came during the run. The Trojans opened with a 15-6 streak in game three and cruised to the sweep.
The Women of Troy begin Pac-10 Conference play next weekend with home matches against Arizona State on Thursday (Sept. 20) and Arizona on Friday (Sept. 21). Both matches start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on usctrojans.com, courtesy of TrojanTV All-Access.
