No. 2 Men's Swimming Tops LSU In Season Opener

The No. 2 Stanford men's swimming team defeated LSU by a score of 139-123 at the LSU Natatorium. The Cardinal took first place in seven of the 14 races contested, including both relays and secured their victory with a first place finish e 200 freestyle to down the Tigers.
Jason Dunford captured first place in the 100 freestyle as he posted a time of 45.74, followed by teammate Austin Staab in second with a 46.36.
David Dunford grabbed the top spot in the 100 backstroke as he held off the first and second place LSU swimmers, touching the wall in 50.38.
The Cardinal managed to sweep the top three spots for the second straight race in the 200 breaststroke. Paul Kornfeld (2:05.01) led the way for Stanford, followed by Paul Zaich (2:06.17) and John Criste (2:07.63) to round out the top three.
The Stanford `A' 200 freestyle relay team narrowly beat out LSU for a first place finish as Austin Staab, David Dunford, Eugene Gosoe, and Dan Priestly combined for a 1:23.47. The Cardinal `B' team of David Mosko, Andrew Trepp, BJ Johnson, and BJ Kolsrud earned a third place finish with a time of 1:26.51.
In the 200 medley relay, the Stanford `A' team again claimed the top spot as Eugene Godsoe, Paul Kornfeld, Austin Staab, and Jason Dunford swam to a time of 1:31.34. The Cardinal `B' squad of Nate Cass, John Criste, Patrick Simpkins, and Eric Zeller recorded a third place finish in 1:35.09.
