Trojans Set For 2007 PING/Golfweek Preview

The USC men's golf team, ranked No. 5 and 6, respectively, in the Golfweek and Golf World Preseason polls, will play in its second event of the season, the prestigious PING/Golfweek Preview Tournament at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 22 and 23) in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Preview features the top teams in men's collegiate golf and gives programs expected to compete in May at the 2008 Men's NCAA Championships an opportunity to play the Kampen Course in the fall. It is a 54-hole event held on the Kampen Course's par-72, 7,467-yard layout, with two rounds played Saturday and the final round on Sunday. Competitors will tee off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. (CST).
Five teams competing in the Preview are ranked in the Golfweek top 10, including No. 3 Alabama, No. 5 USC, No. 6 Florida, No. 8 UNLV and No. 10 Oklahoma State.
The remainder of the teams include No. 13 Florida State, No. 15 Charlotte, No. 16 Coastal Carolina, No. 17 Texas A&M, No. 18 Arizona State, No. 20 Louisville, No. 24 Lamar, No. 25 Minnesota and No. 28 Georgia State.
USC sophomore Jamie Lovemark, the defending NCAA individual champion and the top-ranked collegiate golfer in the country, will make his 2007-08 USC debut after missing the Trojans' first tournament while representing the U.S. at the recently completed Walker Cup.
The Trojans finished eighth in their opening tournament, the Inverness Intercollegiate.Junior Tom Glissmeyer and freshman Tim Sluiter tied for 14th to pace the team. Lovemark, Glissmeyer and Sluiter will be joined by sophomore Rory Hie and freshman Daniel Park in Indiana this weekend.
