ASU Women's Soccer Falls to No. 1 Santa Clara 1-0
Sept. 21, 2007
TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State soccer team was defeated 1-0 Friday by the No. 1 Santa Clara Broncos. The Sun Devils had a three-game winning streak snapped as they fell to 4-3-0 on the season. The Broncos remain undefeated as they improved to 5-0-1 overall.
In front of a crowd of 1,060, ASU came out strong to start the match holding Santa Clara to a scoreless draw at the half. The Sun Devils doubled Santa Clara's number of shots (4-2) during the first 45 minutes of play.
The Broncos used the halftime break to regroup and began the second half with the lone score of the game. The Santa Clara goal, scored in the 45th minute of play, came from sophomore Kiki Bosio as she crossed the ball across the ASU goal and into the back right corner of the net. It marked the third goal of the season for Bosio.
'We got scored on a minute (into the second half) and it deflated us a little,' ASU head coach Kevin Boyd said. 'We got rattled and struggled getting our game back. The other team was experienced and wise; they played the game well.'
Sophomore goalkeeper Briana Silvestri recorded three saves in the loss for ASU.
The game was fairly matched as the Broncos took seven shots, while the Sun Devils fired off five. Both teams recorded three saves on the night.
Up next, the Sun Devils travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on the New Mexico Lobos Tuesday at 7 p.m.
