Malibu, Calif. - The sixth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team played 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods before earning a 1-1 draw with Pepperdine on Friday during a cold and rainy contest at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.

Sophomore forward Lauren Cheney broke a scoreless tie in the 42nd minute, as she hooked up with midfielder Caitlyn Mac Kechnie to score her fourth goal of the season. Mac Kechnie gained control of the ball deep on the left side of the field before playing it to Cheney at the top of the box. She took a dribble and then unleashed a right-footed shot into the upper-right corner of the goal beating Pepperdine goalkeeper Kayla Stolte.

Just when it looked like the Bruins would enjoy a 1-0 lead heading into the half, Pepperdine answered less than two minutes later, as Sophia Medina scored her first goal of the season at the 43:02 mark. Amanda Rupp crossed a ball into the box that was not immediately cleared by the Bruin defense. Goalkeeper Valerie Henderson came out to gather it, but before she could the ball was tipped to Medina, who played a ball into the unattended net.

No rain fell for the entire first half, however as both teams were meeting at halftime it began to sprinkle, prompting officials to cut the intermission short in order to ensure a complete game.

Both teams failed to find the back of the net in the rainy second half, sending the game into overtime. UCLA's best chance to score came in the 105th minute when senior Danesha Adams got loose on a breakaway. Cheney lofted a ball over the Pepperdine defense, giving Adams enough space to run onto it and leave her defender behind. As Adams approached the goal, she tried to dribble around Stolte, who had come off her line to challenge. Stolte dove at Adams' feet, snatching the ball away before a shot could be taken.

UCLA's record moves to 3-1-2 on the season, while Pepperdine goes to 1-4-2. The Bruins have one more match this weekend, hosting Hawai'i at Drake Stadium on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
