Sophomore Jamie Lovemark and freshman Tim Sluiter are tied for 12th after two rounds to lead the No. 5 USC men's golf team on the first day of the PING/Golfweek Preview Tournament at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Saturday (Sept. 22) in West Lafayette, Ind.
USC is tied for third with Minnesota at 10-over 586 after a pair of 293 rounds. Oklahoma State is in first (573) while Charlotte (576) is in second.
Lovemark, making his 2007-08 USC debut after missing the season-opener while representing the U.S. at the Walker Cup, fired a 2-under 70 in his first round and a 4-over 76 for a 2-over 146. Sluiter opened with a 2-over 74 and carded par in the second round.
Sophomore Rory Hie and junior Tom Glissmeyer are tied for 21st at 147. After an opening round 75, Hie had an exceptional second round working and was 6-under with two holes to go, an effort that included four birdies and an eagle on the par-4 15th hole. But an 8 on the par-3 17th hole did in the round and he finished at par 72. Glissmeyer posted rounds of 74 and 73 with a combined six birdies.
Freshman Daniel Park is tied for 64th at 13-over 157 after rounds of 78 and 79.
The final round is set for Sunday (Sept. 23) at 8:30 a.m. (CST). USC will tee off at 10 a.m.
