Mussie Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

Senior outside hitter Stevie Mussie has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 17-23, as announced by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. Mussie led the No. 8 Huskies to a 2-0 record last weekend as UW opened Pac-10 play at Oregon and Oregon State. Washington is now 13-0 overall and 2-0 in Pac-10 action.
Mussie, a senior from Puyallup, Wash., had a season-best 27 kills and hit .310 in the Huskies' 3-2 win over No. 24 Oregon on Friday night. She led an impressive comeback, as UW rallied from a 2-0 game deficit. Mussie had 15 of her 27 kills and seven of her nine digs in the last three games, and she led UW in kills in four of the five games.
The last time Washington rallied from a 2-0 deficit was on Oct. 28, 2004 at Oregon State (20-30, 37-39, 30-16, 30-27, 15-10).
Against Oregon State on Saturday, Mussie led all players with 20 kills, and added nine digs as Washington swept the Beavers, 3-0. In this match, Mussie hit .390, helping the Huskies' hit a season-best .446.
For the week, Mussie hit .343 with 47 kills (5.58 kpg), and added 18 digs (2.25 dpg), while averaging 6.00 points per game. For the season, she is averaging 4.47 kpg and 4.92 ppg, both of which lead the Huskies.
This is the first weekly honor for Mussie, and Washington's 21st Pac-10 Player of the Week award all-time.
