Men's Soccer Set To Face College Of Charleston

Cardinal Have One Last Game Before Pac-10 Play
Stanford defeated both opponents (Princeton, Davidson) it faced this weekend at the Stanford Nike Invitational. With a 2-0 tournament record, the Cardinal took home the championship over Cal (also 2-0) on goal differential. On a two game win streak, Stanford will look to continue its success as they host College of Charleston for the first time ever on Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. This will be the final tune up for the team before they enter Pac-10 play on Friday, October 5 against Oregon State.
Scouting College of Charleston
College of Charleston (6-1-0) comes into the match having won six of their first seven games this season. The Cougars began the season on a six game win streak, before falling to UCF (3-2) on September 21. So far this year, College of Charleston has defeated Mercer (1-0), Birmingham Southern (4-1), UNC Wilmington (1-0), Charlotte (2-0), Liberty (2-0), and Coastal Carolina (2-1). The Cougar attack is led by sophomore forward Kareem Yearwood, who has tallied nine of his teams 15 goals, one assist, and 19 points on the year. The defense has been stout, as senior goalkeeper Waller Corbin has recorded four shutouts in seven games on the year. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Stanford is now on a two game winning streak after defeating Princeton (3-1) and Davidson (2-0) last weekend at Stanford Nike Invitational ... Senior forward Dan Shapiro scored three goals in the last two games, recording the game winning goal in both victories; he now leads the team with four goals on the year ... Freshman Bobby Warshaw continues to be a force as he is tied for first on the team in assists (2) and second in goals (3) after netting one in the 3-1 win over Princeton ... The Cardinal attack has been on point as it ranks first in the Pac-10 in goals per game with 11 (1.57 avg.) ... Stanford has earned ties against both ranked opponents they played this season (No. 1 UC Santa Barbara, No. 6 Santa Clara).
Head Coach Bret Simon
Head coach Bret Simon enters his seventh year at the helm of the Cardinal program in 2007. Simon has accumulated a 61-48-19 record on The Farm and moved into fifth place in the Stanford history books for career wins (59) after the Cardinal's victory over Penn, passing Sam Koch (1984-89). Simon piloted the Cardinal to consecutive College Cup appearances in his first two seasons, including a trip to the championship game in 2002.
Stanford will open Pac-10 play next week as they take on Oregon State on Friday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
