Men's Tennis Hosts British Universities At Hellman
Sept. 25, 2007
BERKELEY - The California men's tennis team will play host to several of Britain's top collegiate tennis players tomorrow at 2 p.m. in an exhibition match with the British Universities Sports Association tour squad. The touring team is sponsored by Barclays and is made up of players from six different British Universities, coached by James Andell from the University of Bath.
The Golden Bears are led by seniors Pierre Mouillon and Ken Nakahara and return a deep lineup to the court. With a strong freshman class, Cal looks to improve on last seasons' success, by qualifying for postseason play as a team for a ninth consecutive year.
The Barclays BUSA USA tour squad arrived in the United States on Sept. 7 and has been touring the country for the past two weeks, playing seven matches in as many days throughout its time here. In addition to facing off with the Bears, the BUSA team will also take the courts against Stanford. Participation on the tour squad is the first step for British players towards selection for the 2009 World University Games team.
Joining head coach James Andell from the University of Bath are his players Graeme Hood and Alex Miotto. Other universities represented include Loughborough University (David Culshaw), University of East Anglia (Barry Fulcher), University of Exeter (Matt Leahy), University of Stirling (Keith Meisner) and University of Brighton (Tom Pocock).
Doubles play begins at the Hellman Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. and singles matches begin at 3 p.m.
