UCLA Forward Lauren Cheney Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- UCLA sophomore forward Lauren Cheney has beennamed the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 18-24,Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Cheney, from Indianapolis, Ind., notched five goals in two matcheslast week in leading the Bruins to a 6-0 victory over Hawaii and a1-1 tie at Pepperdine.
In the Bruins' dominating win over Hawaii, Cheney tallied four goalsto tie the school's single game record. She becomes just the thirdplayer in UCLA history to score four goals in a match, tying TraciArkenberg (1996) and Danesha Adams (2005).
Those four goals combined with the single goal in the tie withPepperdine moved Cheney into the team lead in scoring with 18 points(8g, 2a).
UCLA (4-1-2) is unbeaten in its last six matches, having only fallento Texas, 1-2, to open the season.
The Bruins will look to maintain their streak as No. 3 Portland andPortland State visit Drake Stadium this week.
This is Cheney's first weekly honor and the 19th all-time award forthe Bruins. The award is the second for the Bruins in 2007, as seniormidfielder/forward Danesha Adams received the award on Sept. 11.
